Regular developmental screenings help families recognize milestones a child is achieving and address possible developmental concerns as early as possible.
Screenings help you ensure your child gets the right help they need to grow and develop.
Developmental screenings are usually brief assessments performed by doctors, nurses, early childhood professionals, educators, etc. which are more formal than the ongoing observation families and early care and education providers already do. Screenings take a closer look at the child’s development. They could be done at any time if you have a concern about your child’s development, but screenings are also done on a regular basis – the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends screenings during regular wellness visits at 9, 18, and 30 months. The AAP also recommends autism screening at 18 and 24 months. If any issues are identified, additional evaluation or intervention may be recommended.
