Language and Literacy

A young girl and woman using sign language

Instilling a love of language and reading in children.

From ages, 6 to 7 children are learning to read for themselves. Between 8 and 10 years old, most children move from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” Children 11 to 13 are learning abstract thinking, logic, and reasoning skills. Foster a love of reading and writing in your child by asking questions about the books they read and encouraging creative expression through autobiographies, songs, stories, journal entries, etc.
